QR codes excel where consumers scan with phones—menus, tickets, marketing, and payments. Both store more data than Code 128 in less space, but firmware, camera apps, and compliance docs rarely treat them interchangeably. How to apply it
Let the mandated spec and installed reader fleet decide—not aesthetics. If your contract names ECC 200 Data Matrix on a 3 mm square, a marketing QR will not substitute. If the goal is a consumer URL on packaging, QR is usually the safer bet.
